Temporary view from Nobbys Beach, Australia
Huge seas stranded the MV Pasha Bulker on a sandbar at Nobbys Beach off Newcastle, Australia, for 25 days in June and July of this year. The ship, which had been waiting to unload her cargo, ignored warnings to move out to sea to avoid the storm and never called for tugboat assistance.

The beaching generated sensation in Australia among ship-watchers who camped out to catch a glimpse of the bulk loader, with Greenpeace using its massive side as a projection screen on which to beam messages protesting coal as a contributor to global warming.

The 76,741-tonne deadweight freighter, operated by the Lauritzen Bulkers Shipping company, was unloaded of its 58,000 tonnes of coal and 700 tonnes of fuel oil and pulled free on July 2, 2007, after several attempts, avoiding a major environmental catastrophe.
