 Rockwater at Secret Cove might be the most romantic resort destination on the B.C. coast. Located about 40 miles north of Vancouver by boat, the eight-acre site of the former Lord Jim’s Resort has undergone an amazing transformation.
Most notable are the 13 tenthouse suites, each perched overlooking the Strait of Georgia in a secluded setting among the surrounding fir, shore pine and arbutus forest. The tenthouses are beautiful, tastefully furnished and offer much more than a regular hotel experience. The 360-sq-ft aluminum-frame tents are designed on the Japanese model of simplicity, with white fabric and light-toned woodwork. Each tenthouse is like a private sanctuary—though some are more private than others—and is reached along a rustic 2,000' boardwalk through the forest. Fronted by a private verandah, each features a plush king-sized bed that overlooks the ocean, two-person hydrotherapy tub, shoji screens, slate floors with radiant heating and a gas fireplace. A complimentary breakfast basket is delivered each morning. For those wanting more pampering, there are two “spas without walls” open to the forest and ocean.
 Rockwater also offers 14 rooms over the restaurant and adjacent to the swimming pool and 11 log cabins, all of which were recently renovated. The lounge/restaurant building has been upgraded and the walls are filled with beautiful artwork from local Sunshine Coast artists. The restaurant features chef Steven Ewing, previously from the French Laundry and Vancouver’s Raincity Grill.
The rate for a tenthouse is around $200 to $380 per night, depending on the season (the tents are heated and suitable for any time of the year). Moorage is available for about half a dozen 25-footers, but yachts to 45' may also be accommodated. A complimentary shuttle is available for those keeping their boats at any of the Secret Cove marinas. Be sure to ask about the moonlight paddle and gourmet dinner excursions.
