Hot Tub Harbour
Written by Les Lumley
Hot Tub HarbourI had a 21’ Reinell that I tried giving away, but nobody wanted it. When my friend from Panisula Disposal had a removal job of a hot tub and asked if I wanted it, I thought it would be fun since I live on the 46’ Avro Richardson in Brentwood. We talked about putting it on pontoons, but then I saw the Reinell...

The next day I cut the Reinell in half and decked it with the hot tub in the centre; then I installed a generator, inverter and diesel hot water heater and--to make it manoeuvrable--I installed a 125-hp outboard and put the steering and controls just in front of the tub so you really are wet while operating. It gets up on plane while the tub is full with four people in it and keeps its water, to the amazment of many people. It does about 45 mph with out the water, It took me two weeks to build it.

Hot Tub HarbourSo many people have taken our picture that I cannot believe that no one has sent it to Pacific Yachting yet. All summer long we were tubin’ in the rain, for as you know it wasn't a very nice summer, but it was perfect for the “Lagoon.” It resides next to the Richardson in Brentwood and is kept at a balmy 106 degrees. We’re really hoping it snows tommorrow.

I have a 28’ Bayliner in my yard that has succumbed to the saw. Marty Edgington has given me a 12-person tub, and this one will have a grass shack and a lot of bamboo--hence the name "Gilligans Island." But this one will probably go fast with a big block engine, so I hope the grass roof holds.
