The Wooden Boat Society of the San Juan Islands is planning its first annual spring Yellow Island Wooden Boat Race to be held Saturday, May 19 starting in Deer Harbor on Orcas Island.All woodensailboats are permitted to enter. Non-wood boats are also welcome but are not eligible to win prizes. Colourful burgees representing first, second, and third place finishers, as well as a participant burgee, will be available for sale at a potluck/awards ceremony at the marina the evening after the race. Any proceeds from burgee sales will benefit the San Juan Islands Wooden Boat Society, which seeks to help coordinate wooden boat activities in the islands.
The Deer Harbor Marina is offering a discount to regatta participants. Call the Deer Harbor Marina at 360-376-3037 to reserve a slip in advance. Plenty of good anchorage is also available in the harbour.
