As was the case for the Swiftsure 2020, the Swiftsure 2021 International Yacht Race race will not be run.
After careful consideration by members of the Swiftsure Committee and the board of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, it was determined that it was in everyone’s best interest to cancel this year’s event as a result of a significant probability that COVID-19 health restrictions will prevent the event from running in a manner that will preserve the events’ long-standing integrity. The risks associated with transmission of the virus to participants, the many supporters and the volunteers continues to be too great, given the serious attention of the governments and health authorities.
The Swiftsure Committee and RVYC Board is thanking supporters, sponsors and volunteers who have been working in preparation for the 2021 event as well as those competitors who have been eagerly anticipating an event in 2021. The 77th running of Swiftsure will continue in 2022. More information can be found at swiftsure.org.
